BOOK PRESENTATION 'WERKEN MET WOORDEN'
01.10.2009
30 fashion portraits in image and word.
The book will be presented on 2 October 2009 from 11:30 to 14:00, during the opening of Flanders Fashion Institute's Showroom Antwerp. It takes place during the Paris fashion week, fully equipped with sushi- and cocktail bars, at the following address: Galerie Baudoin Lebon 38, Rue Sainte Croix de la Bretonnerie, 75004 ParisMetro lines:M° 1, 11 HOTEL DE VILLE / M° 11 RAMBUTEAUVeerle Windels has been the leading lady of Flemish fashion journalism for years now. Moreover, she's been very active internationally, interviewing all the greats of the earth. It would have been a waste not to touch that treasury of material, and luckily she has. Now there is a book, 'Werken met woorden' (Working with words) in which 30 designers speakopenly about their practice, their vision on fashion, about its role in society, and the differences and similarities between fashion and other creative fields. Veerle Windels listens to them with a sincere passion for fashion, dialogues with them, approaches them with respect and then again, sometimes with a spoon of irony. She doesn't like to be subjected to her subjects. It is quite the contrary: she doesn't hide from her opinions when she feels the need to express them. Not every interview is pleasant, often going in the wrong direction because of 'attitude'. Deeply human, heart-felt encounters also occur, with mutual sympathy blooming between the lines. The reader feels he's spoken to directly, and the stories are just fun to read, always looking for that one ideal of beauty and humanity. Do not search any longer: this edition is close to the ultimate book of portraits from the world of fashion! With: Haider Ackermann, Azzedine Alaïa, Giorgio Armani, Christopher Bailey, Hussein Chalayan, Christophe Coppens, Ann Demeulemeester, Tom Ford, Frida Giannini, Marc Jacobs, Rei Kawakubo, Karl Lagerfeld, Derek Lam, Martin Margiela, Julien Macdonald, Alexander McQueen, Rick Owens, Rodarte, Sonia Rykiel, Jil Sander, Raf Simons, Paul Smith, Olivier Theyskens, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dries Van Noten, John Varvatos, Annemie Verbeke, Viktor & Rolf, Diane von Furstenberg, Yohji YamamotoOut in bookshops on 23 September 2009.
